Soma Mangnaani is an actress by profession that has now become a contemporary artist. While she did love acting, in the year 2007 she had an accident and suffered a nerve injury to her face. In 2007, she left acting and has come to find great peace in painting.
Mangnaani is self-taught; she makes decorative 17th-18th century Chinoiserie panels, embroideries, and also kimono art in her own style.
Indian by descent, she had her schooling in Bombay, India and received her degree in Art History from the College of Liberal Arts at Boston University. She thoroughly enjoys depicting nature in all of its play; particularly the details of various flora and fauna in a decorative style. Influenced by the Baroque and Roccoco epochs, she likes the sense of bringing the outdoors in. The colors and vibrancy of each canvas is meant to emit joy and happiness, as well as a sense of peace to its owner.
